Because your business currently offers web design, development, or other marketing services you are in luck. When you are ready to launch your new SEO services offering, you already have an existing and expectant customer base. This will most certainly jumpstart your sales.

Introducing this existing client base to your agency’s new SEO services requires minimal strategizing. We recommend starting with a personalized email. A thoughtful note to this warm market is a great way to introduce customers to any new offering and allows you to easily measure the initial response.

Introduce Current Customers to your New SEO Offering

When it comes time to write personalized emails to your customers, you don’t need to start from scratch. Instead, use a template that you can easily modify when necessary. Here’s an example of an email template you can use to jumpstart your outreach.

Subject: Now Offering, SEO Services

[Name],

First, I want to thank you for being a [service type] customer for the past [time period]. We appreciate your business and intend to be consistently helpful, serving your needs in any way that we can.

I’m writing to you today because of that intention.

If you’re like many of our customers, you’re facing these challenges right now:

  • You need more business
  • Meaning you need more leads
  • Meaning you need more traffic

Businesses frequently hear that they need a website in order to drive online sales. But truthfully, a website alone won’t generate online business (or even leads). You need a website that can catch traffic.

Catch traffic? Yes; it’s like catching fish. Put your net in the wrong part of the lake or sea, and you’ll get nothing. Put your website out there without a way for Google to find it, and you’ll get little to no traffic.

We have started helping customers with their SEO so they can catch traffic. It’s a way to maximize an asset in which you’ve already invested (your website) rather than spending even more to drive traffic via paid ads.

Our team already knows your audience. We know your website. We know your goals. Now, we’re ready to grow your traffic and accelerate reaching those goals by building your site's long-term capital in SEO.

Interested? Let’s jump on a call to discuss this in more detail. Here’s a link to my calendar. Alternatively, you can hit reply to this email with a date and time that works for you.

Best,
[Your Name]

Not bad, right? Looking for an alternative?

An Alternative Approach

If a sales-oriented email doesn’t feel like the right approach to introducing SEO services to your customers, consider a phone call or a meeting.

Reach out to your customers (current and past) with a general check-in. This is a “how’s business” conversation. Ask questions that help you understand what the customer's best next step will be to achieve their marketing and sales goals. For many, it will be SEO.

Examples of questions to include in the conversation:

  • What’s your biggest challenge right now?
  • Are you receiving enough leads from your website to meet your goals this year?
  • Do you know how your website is performing?
  • Have you invested in SEO in the past? If so, how did it go? If not, why not?
  • Is there anything we can help you with?

Your Current Customers are Your Best Set of Leads

Launching a new service is hard work. You are already busy. If you have an existing set of customers from past web design, development, or other marketing projects, then you are a step ahead. You have leads.

Many businesses today are looking for a one-stop-shop — the opportunity to work with one agency to meet multiple needs. What does your agency bring to the table for your clients in this regard?

What's Next?

Draft your outreach email with your client's needs in mind. Then, identify 5 customers to send it directly to.

Repeat this process once or twice each week so you steadily reveal your SEO services offering to your customer base organically over a reasonably short amount of time.

Then, get ready for your first SEO discovery call.
